Beta Programme Terms
Last updated 16 October 2026 · Effective 16 October 2026
The terms that apply when you register to test pre-release versions of Cadence Reader and, if we invite you, when you use one.
1. The agreement
These Beta Programme Terms ("Beta Terms") are a legal agreement between you and SUBVERTING COMPLEXITY (PTY) LTD, registered in South Africa (registration 2026/180066/07) ("we", "us", "our"). They apply when you register at cadencereader.app/beta-testing and, if we invite you, when you use a pre-release version of Cadence Reader (a "beta version"). Our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy also apply. If these Beta Terms and the Terms of Service conflict about a beta version, these Beta Terms apply.
2. Registration is not selection
Registering tells us that you are interested. It does not make you a beta tester, and it gives you no right to be selected, to be contacted or to receive a beta version. We choose testers at our sole discretion, for example by device, platform, country or the number of places, and we do not have to give reasons. We may never run a beta round that suits you. If we think you can take part, we may contact you.
3. Who can register
You must be at least 18 years old and able to make a binding agreement. You must give your own name and an email address that you control, and register only once. We may remove a registration that is false, duplicated or made by automated means.
4. If we invite you
An invitation can come with instructions and other terms, such as those of Apple TestFlight or Google Play testing. You must obey them. We may limit your devices, set an end date, or withdraw an invitation or your access at any time, with or without notice.
5. Beta versions are unfinished
A beta version is software that is not ready for release. It can contain errors and crash, behave differently from the released app, and use more battery or data. It can lose or damage settings, reading progress, bookmarks, notes or files, and it can change or stop working without notice. A feature in a beta version may never be released. Before you install a beta version, back up anything you cannot afford to lose, and do not rely on a beta version for anything important.
6. At your own risk
You take part entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, we provide the beta programme and every beta version "as is" and "as available", without any warranty, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that a beta version will be available, secure, free of errors or compatible with your device.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from your registration, your participation, or your use of or inability to use a beta version. This includes loss of data or content, damage to a device, and indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss. Nothing in these Beta Terms excludes or limits a right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008, or any other law, where that right cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. No payment and no obligation
Taking part is voluntary. We do not pay you, and you do not have to test, report or give feedback. Taking part gives you no right to a free or discounted subscription unless we tell you so in writing.
9. Feedback
If you send us feedback, suggestions or reports, you give us a free, permanent, irrevocable, worldwide licence to use them for any purpose, without payment or credit to you. Your personal information is covered by the Privacy Policy, not by this licence.
10. Confidentiality
A beta version, and anything we tell you about features that are not released, are confidential. Do not share, publish, record or stream them, or give anyone else access, unless we say you may.
11. Your information and our messages
We use your name, email address, platforms, country and note to manage registrations and to contact you about the beta programme. If you choose Android, you must give the email address of the Google Account you use for Google Play, because Google Play lets only the accounts on its tester list install a beta version. If you choose iPhone or iPad, you must give the email address where you want your Apple TestFlight invitation. If we invite you, we give that address to Google or Apple for that purpose. If you tick the box on the registration form, we also send you news about beta testing and new features of Cadence. You can stop that news at any time by replying to one of those messages or writing to us, and your registration stays. The Privacy Policy, section 18, says what we keep, why, for how long and who handles it, including the Cloudflare service that checks the form was not sent by a bot.
12. Ending
You can withdraw your registration at any time and ask us to remove it, by writing to support@subvertingcomplexity.com from the address you registered. We may change or end the beta programme, or remove you from it, at any time and for any reason. Sections 6, 7, 9 and 10 continue to apply after it ends.
13. Governing law
These Beta Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, as section 15 of the Terms of Service says.
14. Changes
We may change these Beta Terms. We will publish the new version on this page with a new date. The new version applies from that date.
